Harrier Crash Site : Remains of AV-8B Harrier, shot down by Iraqi Surface-to-Air Missile northwest of Kuwait City in the early days of Operation Desert Storm, 1991. While I cannot be 100% certain, this Harrier was likely piloted by Marine Captain James N. Wilbourne, who was killed instantly when he failed to recover from a dive while delivering a night attack on a tank battery at the Ali Al Salem Airbase February 23, 1991. http://tinyurl.com/bvj663

Kuwait Desert 92-94 : Photos taken in the desert and at the Kuwait Fairgrounds of weapons, tanks, etc. left by the Iraqi army in the Kuwait desert following the Gulf War in 1991. My father took these photos between 1992-1994. He worked for the Kuwaiti Oil Company and had access to the desert while most did not. Possessing a camera in the desert was illegal and grounds for dismissal so photos of these types are rare. My father hid his camera well while passing through military checkpoints. I share these photos because they document a part of history we should not forget. There are very few pictures out there of the Gulf War and I am always looking for more.

What has become of these weapons? Most were probably collected and destroyed, but due to the shifting sands of the desert, some were probably lost to time for eternity, or until they become exposed again. If anyone has any information about the current state of the desert or what has become of these weapons, please email me or leave a comment! I am exceedingly interested in documenting the Gulf War and its effects of Kuwait. Thanks!
